Custom Home Design

At NorCalGBC our residential design is state of the art 3D-CAD and BIM (Building Information Model) taking design to the next level. Here are some of the advantages over tradition design:

  • 3DRealistic renderings and fly through.

  • Visual Insight

  • BIM allows us to analyze the preliminary design for energy efficiency, Passive solar, day lighting, and much more.

  • With that knowledge, we can make calculated changes early on saving time and money in the otherwise lengthy design and drawing process.

Simulation (BIM)

  • Shading Analysis

  • Passive heating and cooling

  • Daylighting

  • Thermal Comfort

  • Lighting Distribution

  • Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Systems (MEP)

Passive Solar

  • Passive solar and cooling design

  • Net-Zero design

  • Seasonal Shading Design

  • Siting for optimal solar

Residential Energy Evaluation and Diagnostics

Home Performance testing is comparable to a doctor’s diagnosis. Questions will be asked regarding your needs for health and comfort. With specific diagnostics, we can determine what is not performing to your standard. These tests will discover how the different components of your house are working together to deliver the comfort, efficiency, safety, and indoor air quality (IAQ) your family deserves.

Comfort:

Your comfort and safety is our number one goal. NorCalGBC can identify comfort issues such as drafty rooms, poorly performing heating systems, and low insulation levels.

Efficiency:

As utility bills continue to rise, the future will be greatly dependent on how energy is consumed. Advanced tools, such as a blower door, duct blaster, and infrared (IR) camera will be used to maximize and calculate efficiency of all of your systems. Energy bills can be lowered by 10-60% and 100% with renewable energy.

Safety:

All the systems in your house are interconnected. When something is changed  in one system it may have an effect on the performance of other systems. Home performance technicians test the combustion safety of gas appliances, which can emit dangerous carbon monoxide into houses with poorly performing building shell or mechanical systems. These tests are conducted before AND after work is performed, to insure your home is safe and more efficient.

Indoor Air Quality:

Many chronic illnesses have a link to the environment in your home.

  • 15% of homeowners may be allergic to elements in their own homes

  • 40% of children born today will develop some form of respiratory disease

  • Prevalence of asthma has doubled since 1976 (20 million people, including 6.3 million children)

  • Increased links to ADD and asthma in children

  • Of all the chemicals that the EPA monitors, only 2 (ozone & sulphur dioxide) are more prevalent outdoors than indoors - Environmental Protection Agency

Green Building Certification

The GreenPoint Rated label is the mark of quality for green home construction. It is a recognizable, independent seal of approval that verifies a home has been built or remodeled according to proven green standards. And studies are showing that green labels like GreenPoint Rated can improve property values at time of sale. To make sure that every GreenPoint Rated home is healthy and efficient from the inside out, points for green home improvements are awarded across five different categories:

ENERGY EFFICIENCY:

  • Lighting

  • Insulation

  • Heating and cooling

RESOURCE CONSERVATION:

  • Recycled materials

  • Durable buildings

INDOOR AIR QUALITY:

  • Healthier materials

  • Optimal ventilation

WATER CONSERVATION:

  • High efficiency toilets

  • Drought resistant landscapes

COMMUNITY:

  • Walkable neighborhoods

  • Bicycle parking
